Our commitment
We want roddytechnologies.com, Roddy and the Roddy Labs workspace at roddylabs.com to be usable by everyone, including people who use a keyboard, a screen reader, magnification or other assistive technology. We aim to meet the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 at level AA, and we fix problems as we find them.
What the site supports
- Menus and side panels work from the keyboard: arrow keys move through menus, and Escape closes them and returns you to where you were.
- Links, buttons and fields show a clear outline when they have keyboard focus.
- If you turn on "reduce motion" in your device's settings, the site's animations stop.
- Images that carry meaning have text alternatives; decorative images and illustrations are hidden from screen readers.
- Roddy's replies and the status of forms are announced to screen readers as they appear.
- Form fields have labels, and errors are linked to the field they belong to.
- Each page declares its language, so screen readers read it correctly.
Known limitations
We know about these and are working on them:
- There is no "skip to content" link yet, so keyboard users move through the menu on every page.
- The homepage does not yet mark its main content as a landmark for screen readers.
- On the homepage, the changing headline word, the moving logo strip and the animated globe have no pause button. They stop when "reduce motion" is turned on.
- The Roddy and sign-in panels do not yet keep keyboard focus inside them while they are open.
